She finds joy in nature, travelling and venting her existential frustrations via her writing while calming her body with food and her soul with music. Her motto is – “what is meant to be comes about of what one does”.
A collection of eclectic expressions from life according to Lilanka Botejue. From her creative outbursts and passionate views to her love for nature, food, music and archaeology, Owl Muses is an attempt to capture these moments in time.

"I tried to think back to why independence meant s "I tried to think back to why independence meant something to me. Why it mattered. Why it was important to know what that independence stood for. One thing is that it stood for something that I am passionately against – colonialism. There’s no greater form of modern racism and structural violence than Eurocentric colonialism – the vestiges of which we are still laboring under – a lot by choice."

Why Independence Still Matters to Me" www.owlmuses.com

Today is Sri Lanka's Independence Day - 4th February. Read my take on what independence means.

6 years ago I said goodbye to someone very dear. T 6 years ago I said goodbye to someone very dear. That Christmas was agony. I wrote a song 3 years ago and kept it. Till this year when I decided the time was right for a Christmas song that talks about the pain of loss and not just food & parties.

'This Christmas Time' is sung by @sheyliyanage and is available on iTunes and Spotify.

The link to the lyric video is in the bio. Please do listen and share.

It’s not everyone who knows their life’s calling at 21 or 25. And then you add a partner to the equation – in your generally confused state – and what do you think happens when the epiphanic moment hits?"

When you have never suffered discomfort in your life it is easy to dismiss the suffering of others. Empathy has never been the plus point of the privileged. And it’s showing in all its glorious colours these days."

"Hence what has become ‘CBP’ today was known as ‘Gateaux’ in our household courtesy my aunt Manique who jazzed it upto a level that I have not seen even today. This was a good 20 years ago.

The biscuits were soaked in milk with brandy or rum and in between these delectable layers she would strew cut up bits of ginger preserve and pumpkin preserve."

They sneak into places they are ‘forbidden’ to enter and then spend their time telling known people “You didn’t see me”. There are also those who are in relationships with people of a different religion, ethnic community or social class and these too are also taboo. Hence the need to tell known devils, “My parents don’t know”."

My First Time to Sinharaja Rainforest "Pitcher pl My First Time to Sinharaja Rainforest

"Pitcher plants full of fluid and insects, beautiful ‘pus wel’ and colourful bright pink and purple leaves and a pathway littered with fallen leaves was what led us to the Mulawella trek. The route was a decent climb – not hard if you are used to hiking. There were rocky bits here and there and the use of a hiking stick was much appreciated especially to avoid slipping and sliding (something yours truly greatly fears)."
