Can This End Please?

Can this end please?

Or is it penance in motion

Years of repentance for a previous birth

Like the unfathomable depths of an ocean

It’s like one hurdle after another, each one conquered, victorious

Yet the scar remains, the bruises burnished into the soul

Pierced with stabs of grief, pain, fear

And yet…we are bound to persevere

Or are we? Can we not just halt? Or…finish?

Halt, breathe and move again

Or finish – yet unfinished finishes

Like unlit lamps, like undiscovered treasure will continue to gnaw

The conscience knows – it is eternal – is it not?

The human body, its mere vessel for a short ride

Miniscule almost in the grander scheme of things

Yet there, nevertheless, and so it must answer to itself

And unfinished finishes are never an end, they loop

Thus I know – have always known – that the path must be taken

The challenge met, the grief felt and endured

Yet, there will always be light and that light will always guide

Nurture and comfort, even in the moonless night

The darkest days and the hardest fights

The light shall endure, and so shall I

Onwards, upwards, we shall strive and rise
