Born of Toddy, she lived a life of earthly goodness
Fresh faced joy, solid substance and sound knowledge
Her family aspired as most would, to reach the zenith of their plinth
Yet comfortable about who they are and where they belong
They struggled to give her the best, so that she could excel and stand out from the rest
He was born of Champagne
Niche, yet common, aspired yet leaving much to be desired
Like many of his name, they played the game, enjoyed the fame
The fruits of his family’s labour, enjoyed by him and every neighbor
An amiable soul, though lost and searching for something to make him whole
In her desire to reach her pinnacle, she met him trying to unshackle his manacle
Though opposites attract, when the vines of wealth entwine in stealth, it will detract
Leading Toddy to believe she is Champagne
And Champagne not truly grasping her campaign
It becomes a race for the finish – to “catch & keep a man”

Designer brands, nights out in town
Each time a Facebook story, each occasion a new gown
Make up & photoshop, the darlings of the social wannabe club
Love is but a mere allusion to a life of comfort, leisure & luxurious delusion
Yet when nobodies try to be somebodies, and the penny drops in Champagne’s fountain
The hunted retreats to an escape mountain
The erstwhile hunter can no longer prey
But is now on her knees to pray
Lamenting her sorrow without a man on her arm for tomorrow
While credit card bills & loans lead her to borrow
Too late the age old adage rings
