Know Your Judas
I found envy when I was fallen, bruised and trying to rise again.
I saw envy when I had just found my feet & was learning to walk again.
I sensed envy amongst the familiar – people I had grown with and known
I found it in the insidious remark, the laugh, the snicker
I found envy in all places but where I thought they should dwell
Supposedly in the hearts of those who are mean, shallow
But no
I found it in all the places I expected to find joy
For many live something they’re not
And I foolish and naïve trustingly assumed
My plight would herald empathy not envy
But alas, human nature is fallible
It teaches lessons when you least expect and with who
The envious ones are closer than we care to look
