Co-vid 2020

A viral ball of proteins spikes

Came trundling down the way

It knows no season, it knows no reason, yet,

Takes residence in most today

It harbours fear, nay terror, in those who feel it will lead them astray

To the realm of yore, the end of beyond and the edge of lore

For we fear though we claim enlightenment

We fear the end, the next chapter, just around the river bend

Death

Is it not the one certainty we know?
Is it not the one truth we choose to often ignore?

And now death is knocking on the door

Via the viral ball who cares not for friend or foe

Many are cursing the ball for dispersing

Families, jobs, life as was known

Like weeds to the elements are being blown

Yet it is in a way revealing

All the very things that need dispersing, that need cleansing

Stripped, ripped, and torn to bits

Reality is now staring us in the face

Poverty, hunger, privilege, elitism

At home, at work, violence, frustration, sexism

Damn Covid and what it has brought

Yet ‘Co’, meaning joint and ‘vid’ meaning see

Latin you see, is telling us from centuries ago

That this viral ball is making us open our eyes

To all we have been, to all our lies

So now ‘Covid’ is the catchphrase for our plight

Yet ‘Co-vid’ is truly the harbinger of light
