The Price of Doing What Is Right

The past few weeks have been a circus to say the least, in one aspect of my life. This, brought on by so called experienced persons with decades in the industry makes one wonder what the hell we hold up as a bar for success and good leadership. Men in polo shirts, Rolex watches and SUVs is hardly a measurement of leadership but somehow that seems to be the only criteria required in this hallowed isle. The mediocrity and pettiness of the mind seem to be the leading factors and its appalling what unprofessional shit they get upto as a result of it.

Worse is the delusional double standards – the rule of law and ethics must apply to others but when it comes to me, it is conditional. I do as I please and therefore it should be accepted. Standard adage of Colombo bred idiots. It totally baffles one how these specimens have been allowed in places of power – no wonder the country is a circus.

Anyhow, while chatting to some friends we were discussing how difficult it is to get people to stand up for anything – especially when it comes to injustice. Be it standing up to your friends for being assholes or standing up to bosses or colleagues who are being unprofessional and unethical, most seem to love turning a blind eye. Silence is assent. And those who are able to use their voice and privilege should bloody well do so. Yes it’s going to be very uncomfortable and its going to cost but in the long run, it would not just benefit you but set a precedence for others to follow and to save those who will come after you. This unfortunately is rare in SL today. Most people love turning a blind eye or worse, joining along to follow the herd and save their skin. These beauties will also be the biggest proponents of religion – church activities, pirith and pooja galore. I suppose one has to balance the sin with the pin. What a lark.

Anyhow, being the one to stand up and being the one persecuted can be quite lonely but teaches one a lot about grit and perseverance. It’s truly one of those tests that is painful to go through but beneficial in the future. Audaces Fortuna Juvat.
