Owl Opinions

The Price of Being Triggered & Trigger Happy

Between celebrity tea and coffeegate of the local social media networks, what is blatantly obvious is the blasé attitude in which most people spew comments online with zero accountability.

Sure, gossip has been around since time immemorial. It’s what fuels cocktail evenings, high teas, boardrooms, politics & locker rooms. Yet, malicious gossip has always been harmful. Similar to this is the latest trend of screaming at people online by the “triggered” masses who actually need psychological help but instead choose to vent – liberally – online.

I met someone recently who had been subjected to a group’s triggered nonsense which had cost him socially, economically and emotionally. He is now pursuing legal action against the people who ganged up on him with zero substance but merely their “triggered” reactions. I told him it was a good precedence. It reminded me of a certain individual who incited violence against myself and another on X because she did not agree with our professed opinions. You can agree to disagree and still be civil to other people. That is what a mature, adult does. Most people today with their claims of being emotionally unstable, triggered la di dah, need a good reality check and a therapist to boot. No one is blaming you for your emotional woes – but the rest of the world cannot be your punching bag because you have no coping skills. And if you do use them as such, there is a price to pay. Legally. Feigning psychological instability is an insult to those who are actually mentally ill and who cannot help their actions. And even those who do act within those frameworks would face the consequences of their actions.

Just because you are triggered – don’t shoot. Learn to handle those triggers or get off public platforms so that you don’t abuse others under the guise of free speech and wokeism. It is a malaise that needs to be regulated – perhaps through more stringent online monitoring and laws.
