40s – A Wiser 20 Year Vibe
The 40s have been great so far. I know, it’s funny to some who have been dreading 40, who still pretend they’re not 40 and yet, personally I have found my 40 year old self to be like my 20 year old self but wiser.
Things as mundane as fashion – sneakers, jeans with crop tops, cargo pants and baseball caps which coloured my teens are now back in style (why did I ever give away my clothes??). It’s funny to listen to the Gen Zs in office telling me to wear Converse on Fridays when I’m like, Sunshine, this is the stuff we wore in our teens. Complete with the baseball caps, big hoops and leather bracelets. Lol.
Even the social events with clubs playing 80s and 90s music, 40th birthday parties which hark back to our teen and early 20s parties, all serve as a reminder of what it is to be this age. Older, definitely wiser and still youthful. I love it. It’s such a great vibe.
Do I wish to go back to being 20? Nope. That was a good growth phase but it’s done. At 40, I am a lot more confident, sure of what I want and not willing to comprise. I am also way fitter than my 30 year old self and stronger than my 20 year old self – even when I was training as an athlete. This is after injuries and challenging health conditions and I am very grateful that I am able to keep pushing boundaries despite all. That starts with the mind – and it’s taken years to mould it to this state and is still a WIP.
Yes, aging can be daunting but it’s a natural process of life. I recently saw a stupid ad for butt fillers which starts off with a nurse asking how the doctor’s butt got so big. It was cringe to say the least and honestly, what is this garbage that we are selling? Riding off women’s insecurities to sell an image and make money is hardly commendable. Not when we have spent centuries fighting for equal rights only to be slapped in the face with Botox by cosmetic surgeons and the like who want to make being expressionless a desirable feature. No way Jose.
So yes, 40 is giving 20 year old vibes without the young, dumb and broke adage. It’s super and I am excited for the future. It really is the best decade to be alive.
